The Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre
| Intrepid story-makers enter through Willy Wonka’s factory gates and scrumdiddlyumptious-smelling chocolate doors into this great little award-winning and family-friendly Museum. The Roald Dahl Museum comprises two fun and fact-packed biographical galleries and a fantabulous Story Centre. Through audio visual presentations and interactive displays in the Boy and Solo galleries, visitors can discover all the real-life experiences that shaped their favourite stories and delve into the archive on touch screen computers and investigate Roald Dahl’s writing process. The squiffling Story Centre allows imaginations to run wild as visitors get busy filling up their Ideas Books (issued on arrival), creating characters, making movies, dressing up and exploring Roald Dahl’s replica Writing Hut. There’s a crodsquinkling craft room to get messy in and on weekends and during school holidays, phizz-whizzing workshops are on offer including chocolate decorating, poetry, mask making, cooking, animation and scientific experiments, not to mention free, noisy story telling from the Museum’s own Oompa Loompas. It’s an inspirational day out for the whole family. |
| If the weather is nice, why not bring a picnic to enjoy in our sunny courtyard or pick up a Village Trail map from the shop to explore picturesque Great Missenden, the village where Roald Dahl lived and wrote for 36 years and that inspired many of Dahl’s stories: see Matilda’s library, Sophie’s orphanage and Roald Dahl’s grave and memorial. The Museum shop is a treasure trove of Dahl-related goodies. There’s something for everyone from books, toys, quirky gifts and pocket-money items to exclusive souvenirs and limited edition Quentin Blake Prints. Pop in for a rummage or visit the online store at www.roalddahlstore.com Café Twit serves a delumptious family-friendly range of sandwiches, soups, salads and home-made cakes. The Shop and Cafe are open to the general public as well as to Museum visitors. |
